Naval Fighters: F2H Banshee

The intent of the Banshee was to give the Navy a Carrier capable aircraft with the speed, range and armament equal to or better than its Air Force contemporaries. Basically the design was a scaled-up Phantom designed around two 3,000 lb. Westinghouse J34-WE-222 engines (almost twice the thrust of the Phantoms engines) and four 20mm, cannons. So successful was the redesign on the Phantoms premise that the Banshee would live on through 895 aircraft of six different types and would be stretched by more than 25% in its final configuration.
